- Ingredients:
- 2 cups of warm water
- 1 tablespoon of dried yeast
- a pinch of sugar
- 4 cups of flour
- 1 extra cup of flour
- 1 teaspoon of salt
- olive oil
- grated cheese
Instructions:
Put the warm water into a small bowl and
sprinkle the yeast onto the water with the sugar. Leave this to
sit and froth for about 10 minutes in a warm place in the kitchen
(in winter you might have to put it in the hot water cupboard).
In a large bowl put the
flour and salt then stir in the yeast mixture until it forms a
dough. Tip the dough out onto clean, flat surface with the extra
flour sprinkled on it. Knead
the dough with your hands for about 5 minutes, until it’s
smooth. Place the
dough on a baking tray or cut it into two and gently push it out
until it’s flat. Brush
the top of the dough with olive oil and leave the dough in a warm
place until it has doubled in size.
Pre-heat the oven to
250’Celcius.
Sprinkle
the top of the bread with grated cheese and cook for about 15
minutes. Leave to
cool before cutting and eating.Notes:
Mum makes this for the big kids too; sprinkling herbs and crushed
garlic on the top instead of cheese or drizzling chilli sauce on
top. You can even mix chopped olives, sundriad tomatoes or
herbs through the flour before you make it into a dough. Yum!
